I love the handcolored photos that were prevalent before the advent of color photography. They were very popular around the time of WW2 and after... then the 1960s brought a change in technology that brought color photography for the masses. Personally a lot of straight color photography looks too real for me and I have always favored the timeless quality and simplicity of black and white images. On the other hand, I do like color in painting...it is because in painting I can construct my own palette. That is why I take certain black and white images and handpaint them in a more contemporary way then the traditional oil coloring that was popular decades ago. I use pastel, colored pencil and acrylic paint to achieve the effects you see here. Here are some samples. I will be adding many more in the next few weeks. All are one of a kind images and some are currently available for sale.
